First and foremost we would like to say to all of our lovely guests, friends and family reading this that we hope you are staying safe and healthy through this scary time in our lives.
How the world has changed over the last few months with the effects of the corona virus closing down borders, international travel and full lock downs being implemented on many countries around the world. Bali isn’t the same old Bali, the streets are empty, restaurants are closing and a select few are doing takeaway and delivery. The beaches have been closed to visitors for weeks now with bamboo barricades blocking entrances. Tourist and expats have been leaving the island in droves to get back to there country of birth in fear of getting stuck here for months on end with no international flights. Bali’s tourism industry has been severely effected with hotels, home stays and villas shutting down and millions of workers losing there jobs.
At Canang Villas Bingin we didn’t want to shut down and have to let our staff go so we switched to long term rentals for April meaning we have been able to keep all our staff employed through these trying months, Ketut has taken his well deserved annual leave and is enjoying his time with family, Salo’s university has gone online so he is often working afternoon shifts where he is able to study a little extra, Putri and Ella are working as a team housekeeping and general cleaning, they have been studying english together and look forward to trying out there new words with guests in the future 🙂
Ketut and Honey come from a small rice farming village in Ubud and we have been fortunate enough to get a good quantity of rice from there parents farm to share with our staff, family and friends who are in need. We will continue to support our community and help others wherever we can.
Honey, Rich, Sahira and Selena have been taking it easy, mainly staying at home and taking the kids for walks through out the day. A slower pace of life but a nice one none the less. Rich and Honey are encouraging friends and family to stay positive, keep smiling and enjoy time together as a family. we will get through this together.
The corona virus surf team has been pushing the limits all over the Island, searching for new entrances to the famous waves of Uluwatu, climbing down the cliff with home made ladders and sketchy ropes to avoid bamboo barricades and government officials sending you home. Some days they seem to be mastering the art of scaling the cliff with up to 30 people in the water and other days must not be as successful with non one out and perfect left hand tubes rifling down the reef (be careful guys).
Bingin beach has been closed for 10 days now with barricades blocking entrances and signs warning the keen surfer to go home! Yet the lure of a perfect left hand tube with no one out has seen the eager surfer find every secret entrance down to the beach and chase that Indo dream of empty waves. This hasn’t sat to well with the local Bingin board riders and Banjar who have been patrolling the beach hourly and calling surfers out with microphones! Everyone loves a good sleep in, is it time to start getting up early?
Impossibles seems to be open for surfing with swarms of surfers crowding the lineup from early morning till sunset, Is this the last spot left for surfing in comfort on the Bukit through Covid-19!
Kuta to Canggu has seen beach wide closures with local authorities patrolling the beach, helicopters flying up and down the coast line and the keen surfer still sneaking through the cracks to surf some great beach breaks and epic reefs!!!
East coast Bali is operating with a little more of a laid back vibe with many beaches still open, local farmers still smiling and throwing shakkas down with the surfers chasing the right hand slabs on offer. Keramas being such a well know spot has had authorities come down to call the surfers out a few times but for all the other great waves it is getting tubed as usual! Nothing quite like a balinese smile and of course a right hand drainer. 🙂
Our favourite coffee shop and surf store has kept the local surf community covered the last few weeks with there store going entirely online with delivery available on all items including wax, fins, boards and clothes check out https://bgsbali.com/ if your in Bali and in need of any surf gear hit them up.
We have compiled some photos of the bamboo barricades, locals kicking people out the surf and the best of all some epic waves! Once this all passes and life returns to normal, borders open and international travel kicks off again we can’t wait to see you back in Bali soaking up the sun, surfing the perfect waves and enjoying the laid back Bali vibe. Don’t forget to check out Canang Villas Bingin if your looking for your own private pool villa close to Bingin beach, we are a small family run business with 3 beautiful one bedroom private pool villas perfect for couples, honeymooners and special occasions. Located a short walk from Bingin Beach and a 5 minute scooter ride from all the other famous white sand beaches of the Bukit, Balangan, Padang Padang, Uluwatu and thomas beach our location is great for exploring the bukit peninsula.
